DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE WORKING GROUP
INAUGURAL MEETING

DELIVERING DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Parliamentary Chair: Calum Kerr MP

Industry Chair: Peter Farmer, Gamma

Tuesday 21 March 2017

11.30-13.00

Westminster

This roundtable plans to explore some of the challenges the UK faces in achieving the world class digital infrastructure needed to underpin growth and success in the post-Brexit world.

What are the key areas to be addressed as priorities in enabling fit for purpose digital services? The main topics to be covered include:

  • Access (mapping of ducts and poles, standard wayleave agreements, building standards and access etc.);
  • Spectrum (capacity, innovations in 5G, IoT, etc.);
  • Competition (in backhaul, in maintenance, and the role of Openreach)
  • Skills (government procurement, cyber security, professional accreditation);
  • Taxation (primarily business rates, also capital allowances, etc.)

Additional consideration should be given to what impact the recently announced Government Transformation Strategy will have on work towards a connected Britain. How will government departments address the country’s needs and implement best practice?

The meeting will define the course the new working group could take, so it is open to members and non-members with an interest in helping inform Parliamentarians of the issues holding the country back, and in what solutions there may be for successful and timely delivery of digital infrastructure.

If you are interested in attending this roundtable discussion, where there will be the opportunity to share your opinions, please register by emailing dpa@dpalliance.org.uk by 10th March 2017.
