SMART SOCIETY GROUP MEETING
CHAIRED BY DANIEL ZEICHNER MP

Transport and the Smart Society

Monday 20 November 2017

12.30-13.30 ~ Westminster

To register interest: [email protected]

The objective of this Smart Society Working Group Chaired by Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, is to explore what can be done to improve confidence in the secure adoption of smart technologies, with planned discussion of opportunities in transport sector.

We agreed to discuss in our next meeting the production of a brief report to present, based on the discussion in the previous meeting. We will circulate an initial draft before the next meeting.

The previous meeting’s discussion covered potential applications of autonomous vehicles, and governance arrangements in relation to innovation in mobility as-a-service and multi-modal transport. The citizen, and potential user, perspective should be the priority when presented alongside the industry perspective. Arguments must be balanced and address risks in order to generate support.  A report of this discussion is available in the members’ area of the DPA website at https://www.dpalliance.org.uk/about-smart-society-group/smart-society-group-reports-publications/.  Please note: DPA meeting reports and other documents are restricted to DPA Members and Registered Observers only – please email [email protected] for queries.

The DPA’s Smart Society Working Group aims to look at the issues arising from the huge increases in scale, ubiquity, processing capability and interconnectivity forecast for smart devices and the “Internet of Things” (including machine-to-machine interfacing).

If you are interested in attending, please register by emailing [email protected]. Please note that there are a limited number of places so registration is compulsory.  Confirmations will be sent to all those with a place in due course.  Non DPA members are invited to attend an initial meeting, but to continue participating, then need to join us.  More details are available at: https://dpalliance.org.uk/join-us/.
