SMART SOCIETY GROUP MEETING CHAIRED BY DANIEL ZEICHNER MP
Transport and the Smart Society
Thursday 19 October 2017
10.00-11.00 approx. ~ Westminster
To register interest: [email protected]
The objective of this Smart Society Working Group meeting under its new Chair Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge, is to explore what can be done to improve confidence in the secure adoption of smart technologies, with planned discussion of opportunities in transport sector.
In the transport sector, confidence in smart devices could allow investigation of opportunities to improve services, and to reduce costs of provision as well as other time and waste costs of transport and distribution. Through business and consumer use in other sectors such as retail, infrastructure, energy, and health, confidence in the secure use of smart devices could also provide great economic impact.
The UK requires both a Digital Strategy and an Industrial Strategy which support technology that transforms the economy, society and the government. Satisfactory technical, legal, regulatory, and commercial frameworks are needed to ensure that public concerns and challenges in security are addressed, in order to help make the UK a world leader in digital technology.
The DPA’s Smart Society Working Group aims to look at the issues arising from the huge increases in scale, ubiquity, processing capability and interconnectivity forecast for smart devices and the “Internet of Things” (including machine-to-machine interfacing).
The meeting will define the course the new working group could take, so it is open to members and non-members with an interest in helping inform Parliamentarians of the relevant issues, and in what solutions there may be.
If you are interested in attending this roundtable discussion, where there will be the opportunity to share your opinions, please register by emailing [email protected].
Please note that there are a limited number of places so registration is compulsory. Confirmations will be sent to all those with a place in due course.
